The "Design School" of Ralph Lauren.

I am proud to say I am an alumni of the Design School of Ralph Lauren. Yes, I made it through 3 agonizing years of grad school at Pratt Institute (#1 School for Graduate Interior Design, go Cannoneers!  Wait, what's a Cannoneer?  We had a mascot?), however RL became like a post-degree program that was pretty invaluable.

Stone Slabs = Found.

Today was a day of firsts.  We selected the marble slab for Tribeca master bath, as well as began shooting footage for the show with Fanuka & his team.  Check out how gorgeous this calcatta gold is!  Thanks to Jorgen from Stone Source for showing us the further into the lot, the lighter the grays became.  We will bookmatch the stone, creating a rorschach effect on the bathroom floor.  I'll have to do a post on what your inner self sees when the design is finished.  More soon, Happy Monday!  xoEB

Parisian Interiors, Plaster Paneling & Modern Design.

There is talk throughout the Mohawk River house of a weekend trip to Paris soon...  This reminds me of how much I love Parisian apartments with their grand parlors & ornate detailing.   In my opinion, the juxtaposition of modern accents within storied walls is a winning combination.

Art Inspiration: Nabil Elderkin

My art inspiration today is director Nabil Elderkin's masterpiece for artist Bon Iver. "Holocene" was shot in Iceland in the region of Vic known for its rugged, otherwordly landscape. The collaboration inspires me as an Artist, a Mother, a Lover... Today is my two year old's birthday, and I couldn't be more thankful for what I have. Life is precious, Nature is precious, & Children are precious. Enjoy.

My Bath is My Meditation.

For as long as I can recall, my bath is a well-deserved daily ritual.  It's an instant, enveloping experience that, even for just a few minutes, is all mine.  My husband hates how our magazines end up wrinkled with moisture, and blames me for ruining books.  And yes, my electronic devices have suffered due to my choice of meditation. I'd love to say "I do yoga everyday", or "Yes, my personal trainer comes over twice a week at 6am". Sometimes, the bath just has to make do.

Slab Yard to EB = Kid in Candy Shop.

EBI is currently working on two design/decoration projects which require hand-selected slabs.  One is a kitchen renovation on the Upper West Side, the other a Master Bath in Tribeca. For months I have been searching for an elusive marble that goes by many names.  Some call it Breccia Capraia Verde, others Calacatta Panouzza.  I've even heard it referred to as Breccia Carrera.  I love this stone because it's natural qualities mimic an abstract watercolor; it has a very white field with an almost Klimtian stroke.

A Moment Between - Art Inspiration

We, as artists, are constantly inspired by each other.  We take cues from all mediums, from graphic design to photography, from music to sculpture. Yesterday I had the pleasure of experiencing Ann Hamilton's installation "The Event of a Thread" at the Park Avenue Armory. The artist concocts an intricate pulley system that interconnects swings, bells, pulleys, and an enormous white sheet. The largescale swings reminded me of memories as a young child.

Sexy, Sophisticated Leather Floors

Leather flooring is so sexy.  It's silky but tough, & gets better with age.  Leather flooring is like a good looking man; it's sophisticated & rugged but sensitive to the touch :). Leather floors patina with memories. They truly serve as a great alternative to hardwood flooring/rugs. My soundtrack for this post is the legendary Miles Davis, Spanish Key from Sketches of Spain.  Somebody bring me my slippers and a cocktail so I can put my feet up.

Black Friday's Search for the Perfect Black Mirror

On this Black Friday, instead of braving the holiday gift mayhem - I am searching for the Perfect Black Mirror for a formal entry foyer.  The project is in the Toronto neighborhood of Rosedale in a home with beautiful bones.  I recently purchased an 18th century French console from Toronto boutique Boj Decor. The base is mahogany and has water gilded 24K gold leaf details.  The original marble top is still in tact.

Flooring Sourcing with Jolene

Our Southern girl here is missin' her roots this rainy November day.  I'm on my second cup of coffee, deeply involved in search of the perfect living room rug for my Canadian project.  Of course, my researching fingers begin to think outside of the box... why don't we do something different and forgo the rug?! Musical inspiration aiding the search comes from the One and Only Dolly Parton.

Applause to Brazilian Architect Arthur Casas

A Moment Between: The Art of Roasting a Chicken

You think it'd be easy... this roasting a chicken thing.  I've done it about 7 times before, each being a very different experience. By nature, I'm a recipe-combiner.  That is, I'll search and search until finding the perfect three and then make a joint venture of them all. For the most part, it works. However, there are times where my recipe combination is not such a hot idea.  Such as last week's chocolate braised short ribs... do note instagram followers...  you did NOT see an after photo of that one.

East 77th Street Photoshoot Selects

Happy Friday!  I haven't received all the photos from last Thursday's shoot, but here is a preview.  Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.  xoEB Love this Gaston Y Daniela stripe paired with the Paul McCobb stools.  I unconventionally ran the stripe horizontally to accentuate the boxiness of Mies van der Rohe Krefeld Chair.  Rug is the Starsilk from the Rug Company.
